Mehdi Bennani took a jubilant victory in the Main Race at FIA WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Hungary, holding off Volvo Polestar’s Nicky Catsburg to win for Sébastien Loeb Racing.

ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport driver Rob Huff had started on the DHL pole with Bennani lining up alongside in second. Huff made a solid start but it wasn’t enough to hold off Bennani who stole the lead and stayed at the front until Huff briefly found a way through, only to be handed a drive-through penalty following a clash with Nicky Catsburg on lap one.

Huff’s sluggish getaway had left him battling for position with Catsburg and his Polestar Cyan Racing team-mate Néstor Girolami. All three tangled at Turn 2, with Girolami crashing out and the safety car being deployed.

Catsburg held onto second throughout the race, and while he remained a constant threat, especially when Benanni reported brake problems, he was unable to prevent the Moroccan from becoming the fifth winner of 2015 as Tom Chilton followed up his Opening Race second with third place.

Home favourite Norbert Michelisz just missed out on a podium for the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team in fourth, ahead of team-mate and Opening Race winner Tiago Monteiro in fifth.

The Chevrolet Cruze of Esteban Guerrieri and the other Volvo Polestar of Thed Björk were sixth and seventh respectively, while Yann Ehrlacher ended a positive weekend for RC Motorsport in eighth. Tom Coronel was ninth with Huff battling back to P10 and landing the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy in the process.

John Filippi, Kevin Gleason, Ryo Michigami and Aurélien Panis rounded out the finishers but Hungarian teenager Dániel Nagy was unable to go the distance.
